Flight Times

From Miri to Bario, it takes about 1 hour on the Twin Otter airplane.  At Miri International Airport, each passenger can take in around 10 kg loads or luggages with them to fly to Bario. When passenger are returning from Bario airport to fly back to Miri International airport, each passenger plus their luggage cannot exceed 150 kg.  This is because the runway at Bario airport is very short.

In the past, even if as a tourist you had purchased a confirmed ticket from Bario to Miri, you would still have needed to go to MAS office at the old Bario Airport to write down their name into a log book when you wanted to fly back to Miri. This was because the plane has limited seats and the local MAS (Malaysian Airlines) officer had decided that Bario citizens had special privilege to get a seat on the plane (before tourists!) if they want to fly out to Miri.

Nowadays, with the fixed runway this is no longer the case.  However, to be absolutely sure, make an effort to be at the airport well in advance ofdeparture time.  Flights can still arrive and depart early due to weather conditions.

For overseas tourist, upon reaching Bario, it is a courtesy to go to the immigration department for simple registration.

If you encounter any problems during arrival at Bario airport, do not hesitate to ask for help around. The Kelabit people are very warm and friendly and will always try and help visitors.
