The accommodation in Bario is done through the home-stay programme.

This allows Kelabit families to provide accommodation and act as your hosts for the duration of your stay in Bario.  In some cases acommodation is more private but in all cases you will find somehwer warm, dry and quiet to stay.

Shower and bathing facilities in Bario are more basic than you would find in a hotel but a lot of the places have hot water provided through solar power.  It gets cold in Bario during the evening so remember to bring soething warm to wear with you.  Its not uncommon for the temperature to drop below 12 degrees and this can feel very cold if you have become aclimatised to the warmth of the Malaysian sun!

Please treat your hosts with respect and dignity as they go out of their way to make your stay as warm and as welcome as possible.  We hope in turn you will enjoy your stay and give positive feedback and help when you leave in order that we can improve the service.

Remember too that all accommodation is in wooden houses.  Please be very aware of candles, cigarettes and lighters as there is no fire brigade in Bario and we wouldnt want you to burn down your accommodation!
